Student Code of ConductAn important goal of AIS-R is to develop responsible and ethical citizens. The classroom teacher, supported by the principal, establishes an atmosphere of respect for classmates, adults and self, to engender an atmosphere conducive to learning. Self-discipline underlies the whole educational structure. It develops self control, character, orderliness and efficiency; it is the key to good conduct and consideration of others.
Student GuardianshipStudents enrolled at AIS-R must reside with their parents or appointed guardians. If parents are absent from home for even a short time, an adult guardian must take responsibility for the student's day-to-day welfare. Parents should submit written notice of such temporary guardianship to the appropriate school office. Lost PropertyAIS-R accumulates items found at school ad stores them in the lost and found areas located within each school. Depending upon where the item is lost, it may be located in a lost and found area in any of the schools. Students should check these areas when they have lost or misplaced an item. Items that are not claimed by the start of Winter Break or by the start of Summer Break will be donated to charity associations. Report Cards and Progress NotesAT the end of each quarter (approximately a nine week period), progress reports are posted online. In addition to the regularly scheduled reports, teachers may send a progress report to the parent if a student is experiencing difficulties in a specific area. With the exception of a week at the start of each quarter, parents and students may monitor grades online from anywhere in the world throughout the year. AttendanceOur belief at AIS-R is that regular attendance and punctuality are essential to the academic success of our students. Students are expected to arrive on time and to attend classes regularly. Each of the divisions have established minimum attendance regulations for its program. These regulations are designed to emphasize to the students the critical importance of good attendance and its relationship to academic success. Parents are required to communicate in writing with the school office regarding any absence of their child including late arrival and early departure. The parent and student must also coordinate with the school to collect the missed work due to absences. Poor attendance by a student may result in student retention; however, this issue is reviewed on a case by case basis at the discretion of the principal. Please refer to each division's student handbook for more detailed information. Dress/Appearance GuidelinesStudents should dress with modesty and decorum, in keeping with the traditions and customs of our host country. While the school does not wish to apply a rigid dress code, the following are basic guidelines. Elementary School: Girls wear shirts or dresses with sleeves that cover the shoulders and upper arms. Boys wear shirts with sleeves that cover the shoulders and upper arms. Boys and girls may wear shorts to school. Shorts, dresses or skirts worn by students in grades 3,4 and 5 should reach the knee. All clothing worn to school must be clean, well maintained and loose fitting. Middle and High School: Girls wear opaque shirts or dresses with sleeves that cover the shoulders and upper arms. All pants and tops are to be loose fitting. Dresses and skirts should cover the knee. Boys wear long pants and shirts with sleeves that cover the shoulder and upper arms. Boys and girls may wear sweatpants or shorts for physical education classes only. All clothing worn to school must be clean, well maintained and loose fitting. More detailed explanations of dress and appearance can be found in each division's student handbook. HomeworkHomework is an important continuation of work that begins in the classroom and can help to fulfill the individual needs of each student. Parental encouragement and interest in student assignments produce a positive influence on student attitudes toward school and school work. Each division sets homework guidelines that can be found in the student handbook. Parents are encouraged to be aware of these guidelines and to closely monitor their child's homework assignments. Technology Requirements at HomeAIS-R is dedicated to equipping our students with the 21st Century Skills and knowledge they will need in order to be successful global citizens. As a result, AIS-R has a rich and cutting-edge technology program for all students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. An important component of this program is our online learning platform, Moodle, which teachers utilize to extend the learning environment beyond the classroom. Student access to Moodle at home is essential for students to check and complete homework assignments, receive teacher feedback, and learn what they missed in their classes after absences. Parents can also use Moodle to check assignments and learn what is being covered in their children’s classes. With this in mind, AIS-R parents should ensure that their children have access to technology at home. Specifically, students in grades 3-12 should have sufficient access to the following: - A computer purchased within the past three years, with the following software: - MS Office or equivalent Office suite - Firefox or similar Internet Browser - A PDF reader - Internet access (minimum 2MB connection recommended) - A digital camera - A printer Please feel free to contact our Technology Services Department if you have any further questions regarding these requirements.
