Eagles Are Environmental

First Graders showed off all they have learned about being Environmental during their Assembly in April.  The props and the set were all constructed from reused materials.  The show opened with students parading in holding pictures they had drawn about things they love about the earth.  Their first song was "Earthlings Unite", followed by a video about how long it takes trash to decompose.  They presented some facts that shocked the audience such as it takes between three and four weeks for a banana peel to decompose, up to 200 years for a soda can to decompose and 500 years for a disposable diaper to decompose.  Two of the songs the students sang were written and composed with Jim Valley during his visit earlier in the year.  Three other videos, created by the students demonstrated how we should only buy what we need at the store and to bring our own reusable shopping bags, how to reduce, reuse and recycle and the final video was a 'newscast' explaining how to live a healthy life.  The finale song was Jim Valley's "If I Could Change the World."

The More That You Know

Wasn't it a treat to see Learn with US
Shining in song, poem and fun
As grade one invited, "Look at all we have done!"

Did you know? Floss once a year!  Cheetahs run super fast
For all of us, they created a show, a memory to last!

The more that you learn, the more that you'll know
And oh the places our first graders will go!
Read me a story! Through books we journey and walk
Stories of Humpty, Dumpty, Hickory, Dickory with its Tick Talk!

Lala Bye, Twinkle, Twinkle and sparkle in Sign
A herd of dragons - wonderful magic from books sublime.
They sang of their day, their favorite school things to count
Science, math, writing and friendships all paramount!

Peanut butter and jelly was a fun and yummy ditty
They talked of detail and were both poetic and witty.
So much work, thought and care was obvious and clear
This performance, precious; the learning message, dear!

THANK YOU . . .
Kendra, Elisa, Kay, Ayesha (Taralyn and Sunny) for your super show so neat
And Marcelle for awesome music, Celine, Preeti, Reina, Rowena back drops and props complete!
Andrew and Eddie are always on the ball and Student Council presenters
Are appreciated one and all!
