Our Pre-K program at the American International School - Riyadh focuses on whole child development and Kindergarten readiness. We are staffed by dedicated educators who specialize in young children's learning. AIS-R Pre-Kindergarten serves students who have turned 3 by October 1. The program is play-based with lots of opportunities for children to interact with other children their age. The rooms are chock full of developmentally and educationally appropriate toys such as puzzles, puppets and building toys. Pre-K is a half day program. Our program is based on current research and best practices established by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children). Our program is designed to foster the individual and developmental needs of each child, paying attention to social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs and appreciating the unique experiences that each child brings from his or her home culture. Because children develop and different rates and learn in different ways, we provide a child-centered program that is developmentally appropriate. Purposeful learning experiences are planned to be activity-based and language-rich, so that children can construct their won meanings and understandings. Learning takes place in a stimulating, nurturing environment that offers opportunities for children to make choices, and to work and play cooperatively. With the guidance of experienced educators, children will learn and grow through a variety of means, which include: -A flexible program that incorporates theme-based activities (e.g. singing, movement, drama, arts and crafts, story time, and more.) -Active, hand-on experiences (indoor and outdoor play, number play, block building and other similar activities) -Family partnership activities and on-going parent involvement. Throughout the year, children will be actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences that focus on readiness for our Kindergarten-1 program. |
