Grade 3 serves students who have turned 8 by October 1.  Teachers focus on reading using a balanced literacy approach. Students practice independent and buddy reading.  They also work to expand their vocabulary.  A regularly scheduled Writer's Workshop  gives students time to develop their writing skills.  Third Graders use the Everyday Math program which emphasizes problem solving and thinking skill through the use of games and manipulatives.  Various units of study are explored in social studies and science.  Students participate in a project entitled "Kidz Biz" which gives them the opportunity to experience business first-hand.  Living Things, Matter and the Solar System are some of the topics explored in Science.  Each week, students also attend Specialist classes in physical education, art, music, drama, library and computers.
