We believe that science is a process for the description, creation and understanding of human experience.  The process relies heavily on laboratory experiments that present authentic examples of scientific principles, engaging the students' minds and challenging previously held scientific concepts.  As students conduct experiments, they are challenged to decide whether their preconceptions or new data best explain the phenomena observed.  This authentic learning process is centered on the individual and their unique experiences.  As such, the process of science is transformed into an intensely personal experience of exploration and discovery.

The courses offered by the high school science department are designed to provide students with understanding of basic scientific concepts as well as develop the skills necessary to pursue science as the college or university level.  Through practice and experience in science, students are encouraged to apply their understanding to real life situations outside the classroom.
