
Description
Physical education is a participation subject in which student activity is emphasized. Participation for all students, regardless of ability level or personal experience, is the major focus of the program. Lessons and units are planned to help students increase their knowledge and physical fitness and skills development in a positive social setting. Providing successful physical and emotional experiences can contribute to students' self image and personal well being.
Grading - Letter Grades
Students will be given letter grades (A,B,C,D,F and Incomplete) each reporting period based on the grading components below. The grade earned in PE is included in the calculation of the student's grade point average (G.P.A.).
Assessment Components
Students will be evaluated on the following components with an emphasis:
1. Daily Participation (60%)
- daily effort and co operation
- attitude and enthusiasm
- proper treatment of equipment
- being punctual
- sportsmanship
- leadership
- team play
- dressed in PE uniform
No PE uniform equals "zero" for that class period
Rented PE uniform or inappropriate shoes equals a maximum of 7 out of 10 points.

Medical Concerns and Excuses
- A written note from a parent or guardian must be presented to the PE teacher to be excused from class.
- Students with minor ailments are expected to dress out and participate to the best of their ability.
- Frequent notes for minor ailments will affect the student's grade.
- Long term excuses (more than 2 classes) require a doctor's note stating the nature and duration of the illness or injury and activities the student is able to do.
- Students who are excused from PE due to illness or injury are not permitted to participate in After School Sports Activities.

Arrival/Dismissal
- Attendance will be taken 5 minutes after the bell rings.
- Classes will return to the change rooms 5-7 minutes prior to the end of class in order to change and shower.
PE Uniform
- PE uniforms may be purchased from the HS PE office: shorts SR 80 and t-shirts SR 60.
- Students must have a complete PE uniform that should be labeled, clean and worn according to school standards.
- Students must wear their own school PE uniforms.
- Students may rent PE uniforms from the PE office.
- Students must wear proper athletic shoes that are properly laced and in good condition. Sports sandals, hiking shoes, flat bottom shoes and shoes that are not tied are unacceptable. This is a safety concern.
- Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and water bottles are recommended for outdoor units.
- No PE uniform will reflect in daily participation grades.
Other
- Roll-on/stick deodorant is recommended.
- Students will be assigned a PE locker and lock for their PE Uniforms Only.
- Students who lose PE locks will be charged SR 35 for replacement.
- All valuables and school items not related to PE should be kept in the personal lockers located in the main building.
- High School PE Office does not take responsibility for lost or stolen items.
