The AIS-R National Honor Society is a student led club that strives to embody the organization’s founding principles of service, scholarship, character and leadership. Students who maintain a 3.75 cumulative grade point average are eligible to apply, but successful applicants are those students who have a proven track record of commitment to service and leadership through their time spent at AIS-R. In the 2010-2011 school year, as part of a continuing tradition of commitment to the cause of cancer research, The AIS-R National Honor Society raised over SR 10,000 in the name The Terry Fox Foundation through events such as The Terry Fox Run and the AIS-R Talent Show. In addition, NHS is committed to raising awareness of the environmental impact of plastic, particularly non-reusable plastic water bottles. To further this cause NHS has sponsored the purchase of four refrigerated water dispensers in the high school and sold over 400 reusable water bottles to AIS-R students and faculty. Lastly, in a continued effort to help classmates achieve academic success, NHS students give of their time as part of a peer-tutoring programs known as study buddies. A new formalized approach to this program begins this year as students will meet twice a week in the counseling center to get individual homework help from NHS members.
