Annie

AIS-R's Fine and Performing Arts Department are very proud to announce this year's Fall musical production, Annie.
This musical is well known and loved classic which has been performed on Broadway and also adapted for film. It is set in the 1930’s during the Great Depression in New York City and features a lovable and unwaveringly positive orphan, Annie. Annie’s adventures and mishaps in her quest to find her real parents take her from the Girls Annex of the NYC orphanage where she has lived all her life with girls of similar ages; all minded by the cruel and somewhat crazy Ms. Hannigan; to the mansion of Oliver Warbucks – the richest man in the world!
This is a combined Middle and High School production which brings together the Fine and Performing Arts team as well as the Art department who are involved in painting/creating the set! Middle School and High School Music teachers are also involved in the vocal and music direction of the musical as well as musical accompaniment.
We are very proud to showcase AIS-R's latest up-and-coming talent from both Middle and High school! There will be music, singing and dancing! We are also very pleased and proud to welcome some brand-new AIS-R Eagles who are involved in the production and were brave enough to come out the second week back to school audition and show some fantastic talent!
The performance dates will be on the evening of Tuesday, 6th December, following with an afternoon matinee performance on Wednesday, 7th December. The show will be sure to brighten up your day!
Tickets will be on sale immediately after the November Eid break from Mrs. Nidal Al Moumen in the High School Student Centre.
Don't miss out on Annie!

One Act Plays

Riyadh theater go-ers were treated to two wonderful evenings of student performances with Chaos - One Act Plays 2010.  This annual event features one-act plays that are written, acted, designed and directed - all by students.  There were three plays, the first, entitled "Cinderella 2010 Remix" written by Meghna Sathiapalan.  This updated Cinderella story featured princesses, Bollywood dancers and Prince Charming - Blackberry and all.  The second, "Bad Romance: The Musical" was written by Salma Salih and Yaman Kherallah.  This original play was about mannequins that came to life and a stray Cupid's arrow.  Finally, "Death of a Shrink" written by Raed Absemari took place in a psychiatrist's waiting room, giving the audience a peek into the lives of the patients as they waited their turns to be interrogated about the death of the doctor.

Are Teachers Human?

The high school theater department offered audiences a hilarious comedy, appropriate for all ages, on April 20th and 21st, 2010.  Students performed Are Teacher's Human?, which was written by James Reach in the 1950's and published by Samuel French.  The play followed the story of Arbutis Meadows, a new teacher, and Edward Fowler, the young, new principal.  A triangle like situation arose between Fowler, Arbutis, and Dolores Stone, daughter of tyrannical head of the local school board.  Not to mention the football coach who came along to complicate matters.  Throw in a busybody secretary and a slew of unique high school students and the play was complete.
