Tuition and Fees 2016-2017

As a non-profit independant school, AIS-R is almost exclusively funded by tuition and fees. All funds collected each year are used to run the school, providing the best education and resources reasonably possible, and to save for the school’s future needs. The AIS-R Board of Trustees works diligently to budget AIS-R’s financial needs as closely as possible each year to minimize tuition and fee increases while simultaneously safeguarding the school’s future.

Please read the below tuition and fee schedule carefully, and kindly contact the AIS-R Finance Office at finance@aisr.org or the Admissions Office at admissions@aisr.org should you have any questions.

Tuition Refunds: Tuition is only refundable when: 1) a student does not attend school at any time during the semester; and, 2) the student gives written withdrawal notice to the school prior to the first day of the semester; and 3) a student has already paid some or all of the tuition due for that semester. Attendance during a semester will negate a refund for that semester.

Tuition payments may be made directly to the Finance Office in installments as follows:

First Installment: Payment due by August 8, 2016

Second Installment: Payment due by December 7, 2016

“Parent Pay” families with 3 or more children may make quarterly payments as follows:

First Quarter Payment due by August 8, 2016

Second Quarter Payment due by October 13, 2016

Third Quarter Payment due by December 7, 2016

Fourth Quarter Payment due by March 15, 2017

Seat Deposits: Each spring, AIS-R collects an annual seat deposit, which guarantees that AIS-R will hold a seat for returning students. Students who do not pay the seat deposit by the due date will not be guaranteed their seat at AIS-R the following year, and will need to reapply with the Admissions Office in order to determine if a seat is still available. The seat deposit for the 2016-2017 school year is SAR 8,000. Please note, however, that the seat deposit is not an additional fee as this amount is credited toward the first installment payment.

The seat deposit is a non-refundable fee unless the school is notified of the student’s withdrawal prior to May 12, 2016 (a 100% refund). There is no refund if notification comes after May 12th. Please note that the seat deposit is a serious indicator to AIS-R of how many students intend to return the following year, which dictates how many new students may be accepted at each grade level.

Additional Fees and Scheduled/Unscheduled Event Costs:

Please be aware that there are additional costs associated with attending AIS-R - such as school supplies, PE uniforms, field trips, Dining Hall services, personal computing device (see below), etc. Additionally, the costs for participation in AIS-R's annual Week Without Walls program vary. For example, optional service learning trips range from SAR 500 to SAR 9,000 (based on 2015-2016 cost estimates: Grade 6/8 - 500 SAR; Grade 7 (out of country) – 5000 SAR; Grade 9 (local) 3300 SAR; Grade 9/10/11 (out of country) – 8000 SAR; Grade 12 (IB Mock Exam Fees) – 5000 SAR). There are also costs associated with participation on traveling sports teams, MUN, Performing Arts, etc. These fees vary and are dependent on participation and location of the tournament.

Guaranteed Seats: As described above, seats will only be guaranteed for returning students who have paid the seat deposit on or before the due date. Note, keeping in mind that the 2016-2017 academic year begins on August 22, 2016, seats will only be held if the first tuition installment (and fees) has been received, after which both the seat and seat deposit will be forfeited.

Application Fee: A nonrefundable application fee of SAR 3,000 is required for all students applying for admissions at AIS-R. This fee must be paid upon submission of application documents. This payment includes an appointment for testing - testing date based when there is seat availability. If a student misses the scheduled testing appointment, an additional SR 750 cost is assessed and must be paid prior to appointment rescheduling.

Registration Fee:A nonrefundable registration fee of SAR 11,000 is assessed for all newly admitted students. This payment is due within 2 school days of the acceptance notification to all grade levels to guarantee the seat, regardless of the student’s actual starting date. This fee is also assessed on all re-enrolling students when more than 365 days have elapsed since the student’s withdrawal from AIS-R (i.e. when a student has not been enrolled at AIS-R for two or more consecutive semesters). Students who have only been away from AIS-R for one semester will be assessed 50% of this fee.

Capital Fee: A nonrefundable, one-time capital fee of SAR 10,000 (grades PK-8) and SAR 16,000 (grades 9-12) is assessed for each new student entering AIS-R. This payment is due within 2 school days of the acceptance notification to all grade levels in order to guarantee the seat, regardless of the student’s actual starting date. This fee is also assessed on all re-enrolling students, regardless of the time they have been away from AIS-R. If, however, the re-enrolling student paid the capital fee in the previous 36 months, they would pay the difference between the old fee and the new fee. After 36 months absence from the school, the re-enrolling student will pay the entire Capital Fee. This fee is to be paid within 2 school days of acceptance to reserve the student’s seat.

Learning Strategies Fee: This fee is applicable to all new students who receive extra services from a Learning Strategies teacher - assisting each child to be successful in AIS-R’s program. Parents will be notified if these services will be required as a condition for their child’s admission. The Learning Strategies fee is SAR 5,800 and is assessed on an annual basis. Students who enroll in the Learning Strategies program during the second semester will be billed SAR 3,750. This fee is refundable only for a semester in which a student does not attend school. Any attendance during a semester negates a refund.

English Language Learners (ELL): A minimum level of English language proficiency may be required for enrollment. Beginning in KG-II, supplementary ELL instruction is provided for an additional fee to those students requiring assistance with English language acquisition. Pre-testing and teacher referral determines student eligibility for ELL instruction. A questionnaire is included with the admissions application for parents to complete. The ELL fee is SAR 5,800 and is assessed on an annual basis. Students who enroll in ELL program during the second semester will be billed SAR 3,750. This fee is refundable only for a semester in which a student does not attend school. Any attendance during a semester negates a refund.

Seat Deposit: All newly admitted students must pay the annual seat deposit of SAR 8,000 within 2 school days of the acceptance notification to guarantee their seat. The seat deposit is not refundable to new students because it is part of their seat guarantee. However, it is not an additional fee as this amount is credited toward the following semester’s tuition payment upon student attendance.

New Student Tuition and Fee Summary: All newly admitted students must pay the Registration, Capital and Seat Deposit fees within 2 school days of acceptance in order to guarantee seat(s). All of these fees are non-refundable as they constitute the guarantee of a seat, thereby preventing AIS-R from admitting any other student for this spot.

Entering AIS-R during the School Year: Students entering AIS-R after the beginning of the year should note that tuition fees must be paid prior to the student’s first day of attendance. Please note the following Tuition Fee Table for students entering during the school year.

Guaranteed Seats: As described above, seats will only be guaranteed for new students who have paid the Registration, Capital and Seat Deposit fees within 2 school days of their acceptance, and who have paid the First Installment of tuition by the appropriate due date stated above. If the fees are not paid in full within two business days, the acceptance is nullified, the applicant moves back into the wait pool, and the next wait pool applicant is selected.

Teacher Communication Notice: Please be advised that AIS-R is unable to provide pre-communication with a teacher or counselor unless the student has been assessed, accepted and has paid the required fees as to policy.

2016-2017 Additional Fees and Policies:

Arabic Language Program of Studies (ALPS): ALPS is an optional after-school Arabic Language program (speaking, reading and writing) offered to students in Grades 1 through 12 (KG-II ALPS classes may be offered if a minimum of 8 students enroll). The ALPS fee is SAR 2,950 per semester. This fee is non-refundable after the student attends one session.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program: AIS-R has a “BYOD” program beginning from Grade 3 to Grade 12. Students in Grades 3 to 7 are required to bring an iPad, while students in Grades 8 to 12 are required to bring their own laptop (AIS-R does not supply these personal devices). This is part of the 1:World Program (please view BYOD at AIS-R for further information).

Methods of Payment: Tuition and Fees are payable in Saudi Riyals only. Funds may be drawn on a Saudi Arabian bank through a personal check, a bank draft or wire transfer. Note that due to banking regulations, AIS-R is no longer able to accept payments made by ATM or Credit Card.

Miscellaneous Fees: Please refer to the AIS-R Tuition and Fees for additional costs associated with the regular academic year. These include, but are not limited to, the Cashless Payment System, Yearbook, testing costs (SAT/IB), printing, books, PE Uniforms, Library, ID Cards, musical instrument rental, transcripts and so forth.
