A student will be sent home in the event of:

  • -Fever of 100°F/38°C or above
  • -Vomiting
  • -Persistent diarrhea
  • -Injury or illness of a serious nature that the nurse determines a doctor's attention is required
  • -Any contagious disease
  • -Head lice or pediculosis. Student will be allowed to return to school after first treatment and no live lice are found
  • -A severe rash that cannot be identified

For Preschool/Daycare: Any child with any of the following will be sent home:

  • -Green or yellow discharge from the nose or eyes
  • -Vomiting
  • -Diarrhea
  • -A temperature 100°F/38°C or above
  • -Lethargic behavior
  • -Complaints of discomfort or pain which do not go away after a rest

Parents are request to pick up their child or arrange transportation within an hour of being notified.

A student will only be allowed to leave campus after a parent’s permission. In case a parent or guardian cannot be reached, the student will stay in the nurse’s office for the remaining of the day. Students are not allowed to arrange a pickup with their parent/driver without permission from the nurse. All students leaving campus due to an illness or injury must report to the nurse first.

If parents or guardians will be unavailable (i.e. out of town on business or vacation) a signed note must be provided, in advance, to the ES/MS/HS Office advising of the student’s residence (contact person, address, phone number) during the parent/guardian’s absence, the dates the parent/guardian will be out of town and a phone number where the parent/guardian can be reached in case of an emergency.

A student should stay home:

*has a fever of 100°F/38°C or more—

—The child should stay home till 24 hours fever free without the use of fever reducing medication

*Has vomited or had diarrhea—

—The child should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode

*Has any rash for which you do not know the cause—

—Check with your family doctor before sending the child to school

*Has an illness—

—Keep the child at home and call the school daily to report the illness

*Has a contagious disease—

—A clearance note from the doctor is required before returning to school
