Make a Difference

As a school committed to excellence and inspiring students to be “responsible, productive, ethical global citizens”, AIS-R is focused on connecting and collaborating with others within our local and global communities, and to nurturing a more sustainable and environmental planet.

In recent years, AIS-R has supported fundraising efforts to aid refugees of civil war in Syria, including providing backpacks and school supplies to children, so that in the midst of crisis, they may continue to learn and grow. We have volunteered at orphanages, animal shelters and hospitals here in Riyadh, and sent financial aid through the AIS-R Foundation to partner schools (e.g. Nepal following earthquakes; Philippines following typhoon) to support families devastated by natural disaster. AIS-R also aims to make a difference through providing annual support to the Children of Haiti Project (COHP), and our Eagle Services Team members and their families.

As part of our Week Without Walls, AISR high school students traveled abroad to countries like Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Nepal, Romania, and Sri Lanka to learn about a variety of important global issues like poverty, education, gender equality, and climate change. In the process of collaborating with others from different social, cultural and economic backgrounds, our students learn the importance of grit and gratitude. They are forever changed - for the better.

As Environmental Eagles, we have implemented sustainable practices such as purchasing a large compost machine, and using natural light, filtered water drinking fountains/bottle-filling stations, motion-detection light switches and automatic thermostats. In the Dining Halls, we have provided reusable plates and cutlery, infused water, excluded cardboard pizza boxes, nearly eliminated single-use plastics, and doubled the selection of fresh produce. As part of our Global Citizenship Certification with the Council of International Schools, we have created an Environmental Sustainability Handbook and Plan for reducing energy consumption, carbon emissions and waste.
