College Counseling
College counseling is an important feature of school life in the Junior and Senior Year at AIS-R. In a very real sense, college counseling begins as soon as a student enters our upper school. Counselors help our students, in grades 11 and 12 in particular, choose an appropriately challenging schedule based on taking either the full IB Diploma or a combination of IB Certificate courses. We advise students on extracurricular activities, Service Learning goals and standardized tests as they are offered at AIS-R throughout the year. SAT Tests, activities and courses all play an important role in the college admission process. The college search and application process is a journey of self-discovery for our students who will learn to assess their university needs, skills, interests and long term objectives.
During the counseling process students will be coached on how to create a well-balanced list of colleges that offers a suitable match to his or her academic and extracurricular objectives at university. All of our students will be encouraged to construct noteworthy applications that accurately convey individual strengths, interests and his or her own unique character. We encourage our students to take part in a variety of exercises designed to earn offers of acceptance to post secondary schools that reflect the best “fit” for our students. AIS-R has a tradition of helping our students find universities that truly represent the right academic focus for our graduates. Ultimately, students will work with us to explore and find schools that will match one’s distinct learning needs and aspirations.
