At AIS-R, we believe that learning environments provide universal access and choice, both physically and digitally. In these spaces, our learners inquire, collaborate and create; solving problems that are authentic, personalized, and relevant to their learning and the world, while understanding the implications of their voice.
In order to put these tools in the hands of AIS-R’s learners, the school has implemented a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program in grades 3-12. This program is called 1:World and it helps us achieve AIS-R’s Mission of educating our learners to be responsible, productive and ethical global citizens. This 1:1 ratio of devices to learners gives students the tools they need to communicate, collaborate and create, at a global level. The program empowers learners to become proactive, engaged and self-directed global citizens who navigate the digital world to find, evaluate and use information. AIS-R’s learners understand how to use devices to: communicate effectively, learn anywhere, enhance collaboration, become ethical digital citizens, reduce their global environmental footprint, connect with the world in order to understand and positively change it, create new and engaging content, and experience individualized and self-directed learning.
Our technology program helps AIS-R’s students fulfill the school Mission in the following ways:
- by giving AIS-R’s learners opportunities to connect with the world to become global citizens;
- by giving them access to communication tools, helping them learn to communicate effectively;
- by providing them with the same collaboration tools teachers use to be productive;
- and above all, by teaching them to use the devices they use everyday, to learn, to research, to find information, to analyse and synthesize data, to consider multiple sides of an issue and become continuous learners, both inside and outside the classroom.

- Our 1:World Program
BYOD is a cost-effective way to take advantage of the devices already owned by families. AIS-R has chosen iPads for our grade 3-7 students and laptops for our grade 8-12 students because of their extensive use in schools around the world, the high number of educational apps available, their availability in Riyadh and wide adoption among our current families.Read More >
- Device Requirements
Our 1:World program begins in 3rd grade where all students are required to bring an iPad. Students continue to bring their own iPad through 7th grade. Beginning in 8th grade students are required to bring a laptop until they graduate. See below for more specific device requirements.Read More >
- Loss Prevention and Device Repair
It is the responsibility of the student to take proper care of their device while at school. In order to help students, the school will provide a lockable cabinet in elementary school classrooms for students to leave their iPad in when not in use and when they are away from the classroom. In middle school and high school students are provided with lockers where their iPads and laptops can be safely stored. The device is registered automatically with the school when it connects to AIS-R’s network. This may allow the technology department to locate the device on campus if it has been misplaced and if it is still powered on.Read More >
- Managing your Device
The devices are owned by you and your children, so we expect you to manage the downloading and updating of apps on the device from home.
AIS-R has created a list of core apps that are required for all learners to have installed on their device. These apps are all available from the App Store. There are three paid apps that are required. All other required apps are free.Read More >
