In keeping with our goal of educating the whole child, AIS-R offers elementary school students a wide range of specialist subjects.
The elementary music program provides all students with the skills and information to begin to build an appreciation for music. Students receive Music in KG2, Grade 2, and Grade 4. The program focuses on how interests, knowledge, and skills relate to personal choices and intent when creating, performing, and responding to music. With guidance, our Eagles will demonstrate and state personal interest in varied musical selections. As children study these concepts, skills are developed using voice, playing instruments, listening, moving, responding, and creating. In addition all students have the opportunity to perform on stage during the school year. Students are assessed based on the following AIS-R Reporting Standards:
Demonstrate knowledge of music concepts (Kg2, Gr. 2, & Gr. 4 Only)
The elementary performing arts program provides all students with the skills for successful dance and theater creativity and performance. Students in Kg2-Gr.5 participate in a performing arts program. The program focuses on generating and conceptualizing artistic ideas and work, developing and refining artistic techniques, and conveying meaning through the presentation of artistic work through drama and dance. In addition, all students have the opportunity to perform on stage during the school year. Students are assessed based on the following AIS-R Reporting Standards:
Generate and develop artistic ideas and work (Kg2-Gr.5)
Present artistic work to convey meaning (Gr. 1, 3, & 5 ONLY)
Wellness, Health, and Fitness
The elementary Wellness, Health & Fitness program teaches students all the benefits gained from being physically active as well as the skills and knowledge to incorporate safe, satisfying physical activity into their lives. Locomotor, non-locomotor, body awareness, ball skills and manipulative skills are developed through educational games, dance, gymnastics, low organizational and cooperative games. The movement framework, (i.e., body, space, effort, and relationship) is a part of the core content and is the basis for developing, expanding, and refining children’s range of gross motor skills, and awareness. The motor skill foundations established during the elementary grades may enhance children’s social, cognitive and physical development and increase the likelihood of continued interest and participation in physical activity. Fitness at elementary grades is supported by a rich experience in many basic movement forms, as children perform a variety of body-controlled movements such as: tumbling, balance, flexibility, motor patterns (e.g. jump, throw, skip, hop, catch, and kick) and gymnastics skills. Safety, form and ability to increase muscular strength and endurance in order to participate in activities is gained by students. Students are assessed based on the following AIS-R Reporting Standards:
Exhibits personal responsibility that promotes safe behavior
Respect for others, equipment, and rules
Engages in physical activity with fitness knowledge
Be Well Specialists
Our Be Well program is specific to the skills, dispositions, and understanding to live and be our BEST self. In this class, Eagles Kg2-Gr. 5 participate in active, physical activities that develop social emotional skills specific to sportsmanship, problem-solving, and cooperative play as well as how to live a healthy lifestyle that embraces making nutritional, fitness choices that are developmentally appropriate. Eagles will also explore “online diets” that demonstrate a commitment to digital safety, citizenship, and well-being.
The Arabic Language program offers students in grades KG2 to Grade 5 a challenging and authentic experience which can be applied to real life situations. Students learn the language through songs, conversations, and games and learning is differentiated to meet the needs of each child. The program focuses on using Arabic to communicate. Students learn simple grammatical structures, in addition to learning to read and write using Arabic script. Assessment centers on the basic language components of reading, writing, speaking, listening and understanding Arabic are utilized. Learning is monitored through formative and summative assessment that focus on the overall growth and acquisition of Arabic. Students are assessed based on the following AIS-R Reporting Standards:
Speaks in target language at expected level.
Understands target language at expected level.
Reads target language with comprehension at expected level.
Writes in target language at expected level.
Demonstrates understanding of cultural practices, products and perspectives.
Application of Arabic in Other Disciplines
At an additional cost, students in grades KG2 to 5 also have the opportunity to participate in the extended Arabic Language Program (ALPS) through the after school language program.
The elementary art program strives to develop the creativity and aesthetic sensitivities of all students. Classes are provided with opportunities to express themselves as artists through the application of age appropriate art units. Students experiment with art making and gain deeper understandings into art mediums.The program introduces students to a variety of art methods and mediums including printmaking, painting, drawing, 3D construction, ceramics and textile art. Students learn through play, guided lessons, experimentation, group activities and individual skill development. Students are assessed based on the following AIS-R Reporting Standards:

Apply artistic skills with purpose
STEM is an interdisciplinary class that embraces the knowledge, concepts, and understandings within the content areas of: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The STEM program provides all students with the opportunity to solve real-world problem through a design-thinking, hands-on approach. They follow the design process by brainstorming/designing, building, and then testing and evaluating what they have built. Using the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), students are assessed based on the following AIS-R Reporting Standards:
Applies science concepts and skills accurately & obtains, evaluates, and communicates science information accurately
